When you are in a hurry, it is the case a lot of the time that you spill some of your mascara, powder, eye shadow, foundation or blush onto your beautiful and expensive plush carpet. Similar is the case if you have kids at home who fancy makeup and will do anything to get one in their hand. The result is lipstick stains, and patches of foundation here and there on your carpet, ruining its appearance and feel. Not only does it look bad, it also affects the fibres of the carpet. Many of us find it difficult to remove makeup stains from carpet  and end up making a mess. However, it is not that difficult to get rid of makeup stains from carpet. Here are some simple tips and tricks you can use to remove makeup stains from carpet and make your carpet look as good as new.

Removing Lipstick Stains

Since most of the lipsticks have grease in them, their stains are one of the most difficult ones to remove. There are many ways to get rid of lipstick stains but here is the one that is the surest, easiest and the fastest of all.

What You Need

  • Paint remover or rubbing alcohol
  • A white cloth
  • A mixture of detergent and water
  • Cleaning gloves

What to do

  1. Scoop the extra lipstick from the carpet to avoid making more stains.
  2. Put on the cleaning gloves and soak the white cloth in the paint remover or rubbing alcohol. Squeeze of the excess.
  3. Dab the cloth slowly and firmly onto the lipstick stains from the outside to the inside. Make sure you DO NOT rub the stain but dab it as rubbing would cause more mess.
  4. The lipstick will come off from the carpet onto the cloth. Keep dabbing until all the lipstick from the carpet is now on the cloth.
  5. To remove the paint remover or rubbing alcohol, dab the area with the detergent and water mixture and let the area dry.

Removing Liquid Foundation Stains

Liquid foundation is also one of the hardest makeups to remove from the carpet. It takes just a few seconds to make a mess because of its runny nature.

What You Need to Remove Makeup from Carpet

  • 3% hydrogen peroxide
  • White cloth
  • Cleaning gloves
  • Clean water in a spray can

What to do

  1. Take a tissue paper and absorb the extra foundation from the carpet avoiding any new smudges.
  2. Take the cloth and soak a section of it in hydrogen peroxide, squeezing off the excess
  3. Dab the cloth onto the stain and you will notice the foundation coming off the carpet onto the cloth. Continue dabbing until all the foundation has left the carpet and is on the cloth.
  4. Spray clean water on the area. It will dissolve hydrogen peroxide and will leave the carpet as good as new.

Removing Eyeliner and Mascara

The stains of mascara and eyeliner can ruin any carpet. But don’t worry, it is not that difficult to remove these stains.

What You Need

  • WD-40, excellent to remove makeup stains from carpet
  • A cup of warm water
  • White cleaning cloth

What to do

  1. Wet the cloth using warm water and squeeze some WD-40 onto the cloth
  2. Dab onto the stain firmly but carefully and you will notice the stain being transferred to the cloth
  3. Continue dabbing until all the stains are removed
  4. Rinse the area using warm water and detergent solution and you are good to go

Removing Nail Polish Stains

Cleaning nail polish stains from carpet is a pretty easy and straightforward affair.

What You Need

  • Non-acetone nail polish remover
  • A white cloth

What to do

  1. Scoop excess nail polish if any from the carpet.
  2. Put on your cleaning gloves and wet the white cloth with the nail polish remover. Dab gently onto the stain.
  3. Continue dabbing until the stain comes off.
  4. To remove traces of nail polish remover, use a clean cloth soaked with warm water. Dab the spot and let it dry. The carpet will be free of the nail polish.

Removing Powdered Foundation, Eye Shadow and Blush

Blush, powdered foundation and eye shadows are pretty can drop very easily onto the carpet. But don’t worry as it is very straightforward to remove these from the carpet.

What You Need

  • A cup of clean water
  • Detergent

What to do

  1. Mix detergent in clean water and work it into lather
  2. Now soak the clean water into this water and detergent mixture and dab onto the stain until it is completely removed
  3. You can also use shaving cream instead of detergent to remove the stain
  4. Another great, easy to use and alternative method is to use WD-40 to remove the stain. It is highly effective, easy to use and work quickly on the stain.

Some Quick Tips

  • Make sure you always test any agent on a hidden part of the carpet before using it to remove makeup stains from carpet. This will ensure that the cleaning agent does not distort or bleach the carpet
  • Never rub makeup stains when cleaning them. Instead, dab the stain. It will prevent the stain for spreading and smudging further
  • Do not use coloured or dyed cloth to clean the carpet. Always use white cloth to avoid staining the carpet further from the colour of the cloth to remove makeup stains from carpet
  • The best way to clean the stain is to tackle it immediately. The more you let them stay in the carpet, the harder it will become to get rid of them
