Doormats, if kept clean can really add to the aesthetic of your home decor. But since household accidents are a thing, and more often than not we (or people we live with) end up being clumsy, and drop things on the mat, now and then. Sometimes, these stains aren’t as easy as dusting the mat outside. Sometimes, it isn’t even your clumsiness that has stained the doormat, it’s just the result of using it without the regular clean up that leaves stubborn stains. What do you do in situations like these?
One solution is, getting the doormat cleaned professionally. But a more convenient and cost-effective option is to clean the mat in the comfort of your home.
Here are 3 ways you can clean your doormat easily-
Dust or vacuum the doormat before beginning the deep cleaning process.
Mix 2 tablespoons of mild detergent with water, and form a solution. Pour it on the stains, and scrub it in with an old toothbrush gently.
After letting the solution sit for an hour, pour a little water on the doormat and dab it with paper towels to rinse the solution. Repeat the process multiple times till the mat is fully clean.
Mix a few spoons of baking soda with water to form a thick paste, and apply it on the stains. The doormat has to be dusted/vacuumed before you do so.
Work the paste into the doormat with a toothbrush, and leave it for a couple of hours.
Scrub the dried up baking soda solution and rinse it out. Repeat the process one more time if it doesn’t give satisfactory results.
Directly spray a generous amount of WD-40 onto the stained spots of the dusted doormat, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
Gently rub the solution in and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. The solution is engineered to get right under stubborn stains and grit that even a vacuum cleaner can’t get rid of
And wipe the residue up with some paper towels.
The general way of cleaning doormats, if you notice, is somewhat the same, with the cleaning solutions being different. This also means that the results and the time is taken for cleaning the doormat would differ, depending on what you pick. Just keep in mind that regular dusting and cleaning of doormats are the best way to keep the stains away, and your doorway looking neat and inviting.
