How to remove hair dye stains from surfaces?

Dyeing your hair can be a fun activity regardless of your gender and age. From black to brown to red or blond, it’s an easy way to change up your look completely.

And although it is an enjoyable hobby, it can be messy. Not just your face, it can get messy all around. Hair dye on countertops on objects or chairs can leave a stain that is very difficult to get out. Let’s not even mention permanent hair dye, which can completely ruin the look of fear furniture or room.

Not to worry, here are some solutions that will remove hair dye stains from any surface.

Things you’ll need to remove dye stains:

  1. Dishwash soap/detergent
  2. Nail paint remover
  3. Rubbing alcohol
  4. Vinegar and baking soda
  5. Rag
  6. WD-40

Solution 1: Dishwashing Soap

solution 1

If the stain is relatively new or still somewhat wet, you can try out this method. Simply mix some water with dishwashing soap or detergent and soak a rag in it. Scrub the stain down with this rag as much as you can to get the paint out.

Solution 2: Nail Polish Remover (For unpainted or unfinished surfaces)

solution 2

Soak a rag in some nail polish remover. Due to the acetone, it will absorb away any stains. But it can also strip off paint or a finish on surfaces, so be mindful.

Solution 3: Vinegar and Baking Soda

solution 3

Mix some vinegar and baking soda together to make a paste. Apply this on the stain, and scrub away with a rag. The stain should come off; repeat the process if needed.

Solution 4: WD-40 to remove dye stains

Now you may not have some of these ingredients according to the surface type, and there’s no guarantee of the stain coming off ultimately. Here’s a solution that guarantees stain removal.

Spray some WD-40 onto the dye stain and wipe away with a rag. The surface will be looking good as new without any dirt or grime.

TIP: While using hair dye, keep a cloth or tissue in your hand to wipe away anything as it happens. This usually prevents the stain from soaking into the surface, making for easy removal.
