Metallic pipes often attract a lot of rust if they are left unattended for a long time. Especially if such pipes are used for carrying water, their insides are likely to get rusty over time. When the metallic insides of a pipe stay in contact with moisture over time, it leads to oxidation and the formation of rust. Rust formation can hamper the smooth functioning of pipes along and may cause permanent damage if the issue is not addressed.
It is therefore important to remove rust from inside a metal pipe as soon as you start seeing the early signs. If the corrosion is ignored for too long, you would need to spend a lot more time, effort, and money in getting your pipes repaired. Especially if you are dealing with water pipes, make it a habit to look for rust and clean them regularly.
However, if the damage is already done and you have a rusty pipe at your disposal, a can of WD-40 Multi Use Product would help you get rid of rust in a few minutes. All you need are a few sprays to tackle some of the nastiest rust stains inside your metallic pipes. The powerful liquid is capable of breaking the bonds between the metal and the rust, helping you clean your pipe with minimum effort.
Here are the steps you should follow for removing rust from inside your pipe:
Before anything else, you will need to get yourself a can of WD-40 Multi Use Product. You can easily find a can at a hardware store or a supermarket near you. The multi-use product can be used for a variety of purposes apart from tackling the rust within your pipes.
Once you are equipped with the can, you will need to spray it inside your metal pipe on the affected areas. Make sure you spray enough liquid in a way that all the rusted areas are covered with it. However, do not spray more liquid than
required with the assumption of getting better results. WD-40 is potent enough to get the job done with a couple of good sprays.
Do not start cleaning the pipe immediately after spraying it with WD-40. Let it sit for a few minutes as the liquid work its charm on the rust. During this time, WD-40 would break the adhesive bonds and loosen them, helping you remove the rust easily as you move on to the next step
Once you have waited for a few minutes, you can take a thin wire brush (or any other abrasive depending on the thickness of the pipe) and scrape the rust off the inside of your metal pipe. You will notice how easy it becomes to remove the rust once your pipe is sprayed with WD-40 Multi Use Product. Although the liquid is powerful enough to get the work done in the first attempt, you can repeat the process if the pipe is not cleaned completely.
If the thickness of your metal pipe allows, you can give the perfect finishing touch to the process by cleaning the rust remnants with sandpaper. This will help you clean the insides of your metal pipe completely and give it a spotless look.
Moreover, you can end the cleaning process by washing your pipe with water. If the pipe is used for carrying water, simply let some water through it for some time.
