If you spend more time in your kitchen, you would understand how crucial a role is played by the exhaust fan. It helps you get rid of the warm and stuffy air and breathe cleaner air while you are in the kitchen. However, while cleaning the air, your exhaust fan might trap dirt and impurities, making its surface greasy and grimy. If you do not take any steps to mend this, it would affect the performance of your exhaust fan in the long run.
It is a common mistake for people to sit on the issue and not take any action until it is too late. It is advisable to get rid of the grease from your exhaust fan as soon as you notice it to prevent unnecessary build-up and clogging within the fan.
There are different household ways in which you can deal with this issue. If the grease is not too nasty, you can use soapy water to clean your exhaust fan. For this, all you need to do is prepare a mixture of warm water and soap and clean your fan with the same. Finally, give it a wash with normal water and you will have a clean exhaust fan at your disposal.
However, if the grease is too notorious to be removed and it has been building up for a long time, you can call WD-40 for the rescue! WD-40 Multi Use Product helps you clean your exhaust fan within a few minutes without spending a lot of time and money. Using soapy water may require you to repeat the process several times before all the grease is completely off the fan. Using WD-40 would help you get the work done in no time.
Moreover, degreasing an exhaust fan can get really messy and make your clothes/hands dirty if you resort to other household methods. On the other hand, cleaning grease off the fan using WD-40 is a much cleaner alternative.
Here are the steps you should follow to remove grease from your exhaust fan:
Before doing anything, make sure that you switch your exhaust fan off. Irrespective of the magnitude of the issue, never risk hurting your hand in the
attempt of removing grease from the exhaust fan. If the fan is connected to a plug, make sure you remove the plug after switching it off. You can also choose to switch the electricity off in the entire kitchen.
Along with avoiding running electricity, it is advisable to ensure that the gas burners are turned off. You would never want to risk spraying WD-40 with the gas burners on.
Before you start with the cleaning process, make sure you check if the blades of your exhaust fan are moving freely. Especially if you haven’t switched the fan on in a long time, you may need to check on the blades. If they are not moving properly, you may need to lubricate them well. Otherwise, removing grease from your exhaust fan will not make any difference to its performance.
Once you have confirmed that the blades are moving properly, you can proceed to remove and clean the filter hood of your exhaust fan. The grime and dirt on the filter often affect the blades of the fan and its smooth functioning.
You can either clean the hood using warm soapy water or by spraying some WD-40. If you are spraying WD-40, make sure you let the filter hood rest for some time before you clean it using a cotton cloth or rag. The same can of WD-40 Multi Use Product to be used for removing grease can be used for cleaning the filter hood.
Once you are done cleaning the filter hood, you can spray WD-40 on your exhaust fan. The amount of liquid sprayed should be according to the amount of grease buildup on the fan. However, it is important to note that WD-40 is a potent liquid and you may not need to go overboard while spraying it on the fan.
Do not begin cleaning the exhaust fan immediately after spraying WD-40 on it. Wait for a few minutes and let the liquid settle down. During this time, WD-40 would dissolve the grease on your fan and turn it into a varnish-like coating.
Also, taking a lot of time before cleaning the fan would let the liquid’s impact fade away.
Once the liquid has done its work, you can wipe your exhaust fan using a clean cloth. You would be surprised to see how easily the grease would come off the fan. Although degreasing fans using WD-40 rarely requires multiple attempts, you can repeat the process if you do not get satisfactory results the first time.
To give a final touch to your cleaning process, you can give your exhaust fan a wash with warm soapy water. This would remove all the leftover grease from the fan and clean it completely.
Finally, let your exhaust fan dry before switching it back on. You wouldn’t want to risk passing any electricity to the device while it is still wet.
