As the summer has arrived, ceiling fans have become a dire necessity for every household. It is unthinkable to survive the hot summers without a ceiling fan cooling you down in your room. This makes it important to look after the maintenance of your fan on a regular basis.
Fans that require oiling often start making noises if they require lubrication. You may have heard older ceiling fans making squeaky noises as they are switched on. These noises keep getting more prominent as you increase their speed, causing annoyance to everyone within the room.
If your ceiling fan is facing such issues, you may need to lubricate it right away. People often ignore the noises made by their ceiling fans and end up damaging them entirely. You certainly do not want to spend a few hours in the deadly heat without a fan!
With WD-40 Multi Use Product, lubricating your ceiling fan becomes easier. The all-purpose liquid allows you to clean your fan and ensure its smooth functioning within a few minutes. A couple of WD-40 sprays would make your ceiling fan sparkling clean and reduce friction within its body.
Here are a few important steps you can follow to lubricate your fan in the best way possible:
As trivial as this may sound, the very first step for lubricating your ceiling fan should be to switch it off. Doing anything with the fan while it is switched on can put you at serious risk.
Once you have switched the fan off, you will need to take a sturdy stepladder to check if it needs oiling/lubrication. Fans that need to be oiled have an oil hole on the top of the motor. Locate this hole as you would be adding the lubricant here. If you are not able to find an oil hole on your fan, it probably does not require oiling and the issue needs to be resolved differently.
Once you have located the oil hole, check the oil level in the fan using a pipe cleaner. For this, you can fold the pipe cleaner and insert its hook into the oil hole. If you get the pipe cleaner back with oil on it, the ceiling fan does not require lubrication. On the other hand, if the cleaner comes out without any trace of oil, it implies that lubrication is required.
Proceed with the lubrication only if the fan requires to be oiled.
Get yourself a can of WD-40 Multi Use Product for cleaning and lubricating your fan. The all-purpose liquid allows you to cater to an array of different household articles and carry out DIY repair and maintenance tasks within your home. You can get WD-40 from a hardware store near you or from leading online stores. However, it is best to have a can handy with you at all times to put it to use in case of emergencies.
Before you go ahead with lubrication, make sure you clean the fan thoroughly. This will help you get rid of the dust coming in the way of the oil hole and clean your ceiling fan of unwanted buildup. All you need to do is spray a bit of WD-40 on the surface and clean it with a cotton rag. You will have a clean ceiling fan at your disposal within a few seconds.
You can now go ahead with lubricating your ceiling fan. For doing so, use a long and thin nozzle to spray WD-40 into the oil hole. Make sure you do not spray a lot of liquid inside the hole as it may damage your fan. The best way to go about it is to check the lubricant levels using a pipe cleaner as discussed above.
After lubricating your ceiling fan, you need to wait for a few minutes for the liquid to do its work. This will make WD-40 smoothen out the insides of your ceiling fan and reduce friction for better functioning.
After letting your fan rest for a while, you can go ahead with testing its sound. Switch the fan on and see if it still makes the squeaky noise. Test this by running your fan at all speeds. If your fan is lubricated well, it will no longer make any sound and your work here is done. However, if you still hear noises,
you may have to lubricate the fan again until the issue is resolved. However, with WD-40, you would rarely need a second attempt.
There may be instances when your fan would not respond well to the lubrication. In such cases, instead of working on it while it is still attached to the ceiling, it is advisable to detach it and look into the matter with more precision. Before you detach the ceiling fan, make sure you turn the power of the room off.
Although using WD-40 Multi Use Product for lubricating your ceiling fan would often get the job done, there may be instances of the issue not being resolved. If your ceiling fan keeps making noises out of friction within, you can get professional help to look into the matter. However, make sure you have tried all household remedies before you resort to seeking external help.
